Former double player here. Pretty much a single pedal most of the time now.
There's nothing like a solid single pedal. I remember, when I used to take lessons, the kit I used at the drum shop had a fairly old looking pedal that was nothing short of perfection. Perfect footboard length, absolutely silent, nice beater, perfect tension. I don't know what to say - best pedal I ever used without a doubt.
Of course I no longer know that manufacturer but I'll see if I can dig it out somewhere.
I use an older dbl [DW5000 chain fr '95], but I suppose if you were to look at it, technically we're all sngl players from the get-go...I would recommend something these other guys would mention, esp Pete C. My Yamaha double pedal has been sitting in a trap case for about 2 years now... I just don't play in musical situations that would ever require me to use it. I am currently using a single DW 9000 and it is one of the nicest pedals that I have ever played.
I remember Jason Bonham telling a story of his late father, he remembered his dad saying that drummers who used double bass drums were pussies and that he could do anything a drummer with two bass drums could do with one peddle.
I always thought of that story when I was clamping my double peddle to my bass drum... It almost made me feel guilty to a certain extent!

I recently put my double pedal away to focus on single pedal playing... also to avoid "overplaying" live.
I have a cheapo yamaha single which I love... so smooth and simple... infact I use this over my dw 5000. Thing is my dw is more durable and better quality BUT not better feel.
I'm curious about the titanium dw's - just a bunch of hype?

You don't have to put them away for that...just simply don't overuse them [unless there's a tune that calls for]...self-discipline, Grasshoppa'... [img]wink.gif[/img] J/K [img]cool.gif[/img]
But I also DO have to admit...it's easier to fall into busting some of your best worked-on DB if it's like that proverbial ol' mountain...

Figure out what feels good. I have
been single player, almost my whole
life. You need to know what does it
for you. I like a number of pedals.
Consider the Axis A-Longboard, the
Pearl Eliminator, Yamaha Flying Dra-
gon, DW9K and 5K.
Play them before you buy them.

Thanks all of you guys! Your help is much appreciated. I know I really need to try before I buy, but the thing is that there is no where around where I live that carries a decent selection of pedals, and I'll probably end up buying from a mail order company.
